Maple Leaf M38A1 info needed

Post by davem201m38 »

Hi all,
I'm off to look at Canadian M38A1.
Are these different in any way? its and earlier model with the hinge grill, are these wings different and are they hard to get.

I'm assuming that with the possible addition of the Convoy light it will be as per US M38A1 ???

Any info very greatfully recieved.
Thanks,
Dave.

Hi Dave,
I am currently restoring a '53 M38A1 CDN. This model was assembled by the Ford Motor Co. of Canada and will be stated as such on the data plates. The convoy light was mounted under the rear of the tub with a switch located on the dash to the left of the passenger grab handle. The switch had a matching on/off brass plate. The '53 CDN also used the M38 style headlight protectors. The Canadian Army Registration number should be stamped on the left front frame, rail directly behind the front bumper. I am not 100% on the production numbers but some collectors estimate that 700 - 800 where produced in '53. They have suggested that only 200 may exist today. Maybe someone else has exact production numbers? In the original operator’s manual, the brass extinguisher is mounted along side the passenger seat, just behind the parking brake handle. I hope to post some of the manual on this site in the future.
Hope this helps.
