My M38 went for its first drive in three years all bolted together!!! We got the fenders hung last night and the hood and windshield put on. We hooked up a spotlight and boat gas tank and took off! It was GREAT!
I still have to get my lights hooked up, my top bow brackets and footman loops painted and put on, but its mostly together. Ive got to clean up some overspray of primer on the frame in spots too.

I noticed that the windshield cowl seal that I bought did not fit properly. We havent adjusted the hood yet, but it is catching on the battery box cover and not allowing it to fully open up.

I couldnt hardly go to sleep last night I was so excited. My garage is a total disaster area right now! Im dreading cleaning it up

great feeling isn't it.
The windscreen seal thing........ the trashed one I took off did not have a cut out to accomodate the battery lid.
BUT.. the new one I fitted had to have a strip cut out of it to get it to fit round the battery box lid. This sounds like the same problem you're having. My vendor insisted he had suppiled me the correct rubber and I must have something badly fitted. Which is why I don't deal with UK parts dealers any more.
I supect I have a rubber for a civvy jeep, could that be your problem??

Congratulations!!!! I had the same experience this past Fall. It's a rush isn't it??? I had never driven a Jeep before so it was a totally new experience after the M37. Best part was, my wife never thought the rust bucket would ever leave the garage under her own power....

Yes it feels good to get your jeep running. I just took mine for a drive after 1 1/2 years separation (from the jeep, not the wife).
With your cowl rubber, I understand that it could possibly be a French made one, as I have heard that the "lip " is longer on those ones than OEMs. At least that is what one vendor told me. But maybe the Frenchie ones sela better? ........grant

I had the same problem with the cowl seal, I just pushed it down past the cowl battery box and let it settle in... seats fine now... Do not trim it till totally sure you need to ...

I know the feeling about driving it for the first time feels good that you have accomplished something...
