Hi left hand front wheel studs on my m38 are left hand treads. But left hand rear wheel studs are right hand thread. the right side of the vehicle is correct all with right hand threads. Is this normal or have the wrong ones been fitted to the left rear?. Thanks

John makes a good point. The left hand threads were a left over old world safety measure. They were to prevent a loose lug nut from spinning off due to the direction of the normal wheel rotation. This is not really necessary with the newer wheel styling with the raised and camfered holes which provide a locking feature thru interference with the tapered lug nut.

Therefore the only reason to have all left side lug studs left hand thread is for accuracy of a factory resto.

Why just a factory restoration, artificer & Wes?

Why repaint it back to OD, change the tires and wheels back to original? I see no difference with studs and bolts than any of the larger items. If you need to buy a stud, why not get the correct one?

If this is an issue of the tire shop trying to remove the nuts the wrong way then it is the owner that is at fault for not telling them about left hand studs. No tire shop works on my jeep.

Correct for a factory resto. I have recieved surplus units with right hand threads allready on the left side by the military.

The thought that generated this was if you have to replace the left threads because they are damaged then why not just install right hand threads and save any confusion down the line. The jeep is not incorrect for right hand threaded studs all the way around as a motor pool resto or daily driver.
