I need to connect the vent line from the carb to the air intake pipe. However, there is no connection site on the air intake pipe for such a connection. Is this something I am supposed to to drill and tap myself, or should the connection/port already be available.

sounds like you may have the wrong pipe. Post up a pic if you can.
