Hi Everybody, I'm new to the group. I purchased a 1962 Jeep FC-150 truck. It has an F134 engine in it that I have been told is a military engine. The engine number is MD 88547. The block casting number is 807895. I was hoping someone could tell me what this engine came from and the approximate date that it was built. Also is there a service manual available specifically for this type of engine? I have a service manual for my FC-150 truck that has a section for the F134 engine but my fears are that this engine is different. Can anybody shed some light?

The civilian F134 and military F134 have little differences, if any. Many jeeps have civilian blocks in them, and are not noticeable. I believe your manual will work just fine...however...Im sure there are people with civvy F134s that would like a military one....

That engine came from a Willys MD (M38A1). I couldn't tell ya anything about manufactured year. Wes K here is good with dates though, maybe he has an idear.

The only difference between a bare military F134 and a civvy F134 engine is the serial number. With that said only the accessories differ. These would be the fuel pumps, carbs, generators, starters, pulleys, manifolds, oil filters and plumbing. With all that stuff removed from a 56 CJ5 block and a 56 M38A1 block and a 56 CJ3B block and 56 M170 block and a 56 CJ6 block and a 56 FC150 block the only difference you will see is the serial number prefix.
MDxxxxx for a M38A1 or M170 installed engine, 4J xxxxxx for a CJ3B or CJ5 or CJ6 installed engine. This assumes we are talking the same block casting numbers. All the jeeps listed for 1956 would have used the same 807895 casting.

I'd venture a guess of late 53 or early 54 for that engine.

Thanks so much Bob and Wes. I understand that on some millitary engines the rear bearing cap was stamped with the date of manufacture. Is this true? With any luck I hope to get it running soon. Keep up the good work!

On WWII Willys L134's the date of assembly was stamped on the bottom face of the block just to the left side of the rear main bearing cap. The post WWII production did not.
