Hi all

I need help with an advice.

I need to fix my carburetor YS-950
(A total overhaul is needed)

And im not sure if im going to by a replacement SOLEX
or fix the Carter.

What’s the difference in fuel consumption between SOLEX and Carter?
Is there other + & -

btw I pay ~$1.44 per liter petrol :(
( think 1 us gallon is 3.7 liter )
so even a small cut in consumption will make a difference

Niclas,
I personaly think the solex has nothing over the correctly rebuilt and setup carter. I think you'll find the solex is more finniky to adjustments and more difficult to start in cold weather. And it doesn't look well under the hood. If you must abandon the Carter YS950S then why not go with the Ford Falcon carb. Keep in mind that neither the solex or Falcon carb are designed for offroad use. Tipping to steep angles will usually flood either one. If you decide to keep the YS950S then be sure to get a modern issue overhaul kit form Midwest Military. The kit comes with all the right parts including all the closeout plugs so you can access and clean ALL passageways.
