I bought a military turn signal kit. The wiring diagram appears to be for some M series truck, but also mentions the M38 and M38A1. Instead of a flasher, it has a distribution box that connect the signal arm wires and then has separate points/connections for wires to the lights. Is this all I need? (Besides the rear light conversion and additional front lights) The accompanying wiring diagram does not show or mention a flasher bulb to act as a circuit breaker. Do I need one? If there was a break, would that go through one of the circuit breakers mounted behind the gauges? thanks for any help , before I try to install it....grantj

If it is the later M series signal kit, the distribution box is actually a solid state flasher unit. Is it a small box with a 3 wire screw on wire harness leading into it? One of the three wires is a ground?
The solid state flashers, on failure, can be replaced with a normal 2 prong 24 volt flasher by running the two wires through the flasher and ommitting the ground wire. This can also be done to use the newer M-series signal kit with a 12 volt system.

There was also another style of signal kit which came on thr M38A1Cdn2 of 1967/68 vintage. It had a large distribution box mounted on the engine side of the firewall. On failure of these, we replaced the whole system with the solid state setup.

It is the large distribution box, about 4x4". It has the posts (screws) labelled in the corresponding alphabet letters for the wiring. The signal indicator has 6 wires attached to it. I suppose I could just put in a fuse breaker of some sort to prevent an overload. .. grant

I haven't seen one of those systems in over 20 years. As I mentioned, on failure we would pull them and replace them with the solid state system. I have the maintenance manual around here somewhere for the M38A1Cdn2, which had these factory installed. It should have the wiring diagram.

Thanks cmpman and BobW. The cj3b link with M715 wiring is very close to the diagram with this kit. Only a couple of differences in the lettering. ie "M" is the ground, not "B". and one or two others.
I'll give a go this weekend if I find the rest of the lights I need.(stashed away in my parts cupboard)...grant j
