Thanks to Wes for confirming that my fuel pump was correct. Now the question is about rebuild. Is this something that a first timer can tackle, with 'basic' mechanical skills? or is this something that is best sent out? Second, I understand the need to rebuild the fuel pump for reasons of the current formula for gasoline, but is a rebuild of the vacuum pump also advisable as well, since the pump is open. Do most rebuild kits have parts for both (and I assume that with this, asking for US or European manufacture kits preferable)? Who has the best kits for this job? Finally, are there instructions online for the job, or is a TM available?

Fuel pump rebuild isn't terribly complicated, but it can be a bit tricky. I was able to accomplish it with 'basic' mechanical skills, and a lot of patience. I haven't done enough of them to be able to whip them out in an hour, but I have to start some place. Besides, what's the worse that can happen?

I got my kit from www.then-now.com. Their kits include diaphragms that can handle the newer gas. They will want the number that is stamped into the mounting flange to get you the proper kit. They run about $50.

Here's some things that I would suggest;
1. Disassemble carefully and lay the parts out in order. Pay attention to where things go, how the plungers sit on the link, orientation of check valves, etc. Take pictures. The SNL has good exploded illustrations.
2. The plungers that are attached to the diaphragm may be rough from casting. I took some time to polish them up with a small file so they wouldn't cut the new seals on assembly, and to make it easier to get the eyes over the link from the actuator arm.
3. Might as well rebuild the whole thing while you're in there. There may be some engine oil in the vacuum boost side. It isn't supposed to be there, the plunger seal has failed.
