transfer case slips out of 4 low
hi guys i tried searching and didn't come up with anything. my t-case keeps sliding out of 4low. 4 high is fine. i got a new spring and poppet ball but my spring doesn't look any shorter or worn than the new one. anything else i should be looking at? i hate to pull down trans case for something i hardly ever use, but it bothers me because i know it's not right.....suggestions??

HOW LONG SHOULD THE POPPET BALL SPRING BE?
I have the same popping out of 4w Low problem. I didn't buy a new spring. My existing one is 3/4 inch long. Is that correct or has it shortened over time? Also, any tricks for removing the poppet ball for cleaning/inspection? I can feel its rounded surface with a probe, but can't get it out. Thanks. dwm

These are the times that the military operator's manuals are inadequate for troubleshooting because they defer any troubleshooting attempts to a higher maintenance level. Even when you move up to the Ornance Maintenance manual for the drivetrain they only offer the spring, poppet ball and shifter fork for investugation. The civilian Willys/Kaiser manuals offer a bit more in that they mention bearing and shaft end play issues as possible causes. I would advise anyone who wants the most information available to maintain his jeep to obtain a copy of the civvy manual SM-1002 or SM-1037 or SM-1046. (1046 has no help with the L134.)
