thermostat in M-38

Post by Lehr »

Hello: My recently obtained m-38 never gets off the 100 mark(temperature) while driving, which leads me to beleive that there is no thermostat. My question before I dig into it. Is there a retainer of anykind that is needed to put one in? I want to have everything I need before starting. Thanks much Oh it is 1952,if that matters. Lehr

Yes, there is a retainer for the thermostat. You can get them along with the thermostat at most jeep parts suppliers.

also get a gasket

dont forget to get a gasket or gasket material for the neck before you take the old one off. When you re-assemble consider putting thread sealant on the bolts.

Order up a manual so you are sure you put the t'stat in the right direction too.

Good to hear its running.
