Canadian M100 Trailer

I have just purchased a M100 trailer from a chap who had owened it for 15 years, other that the colour and the modified lunette, it is in reasonable shape. I had read on this site were the Canadian RCEME had stamped the CAR# on the lefthand tounge frame, so I cleaned mine off and found the number 53-70193. The funny thing was the chaps who put the number on did not have a "dash" stamp so they laid a #1 sideways instead. I am wondering if anyone else who has a Canadian M100 has the same stampings. I also have uncovered a old tac sign which may be indicate an Air Defense Platoon, It is a Triangle with wing within it and a dot over the wing has anyone ever seen that?

The Canadian M101's are a much more modern trailer built in the 1990's.

The 53 is a M100 CDN.

Ok I heard the M146 was like the Canadain M101 They are all cousins. LOL

I just got working on my 53 M100 today. I found the CAR # stamped on the front left tongue frame. It also has a 1 used for the dash. Mine was 53 - 70236. So far haven't found any other markings though. It was repainted at sometime in the not to distant past.

A bit of an old thread, but here are a couple photos of the data plates for a Cdn M100 trailer. They were built in Winnipeg Manitoba in late 1952 and into 1953 by Motor Coach Industries (MCI). As the one photo shows, Canada had it's own parts manual, but used the American maintenance/operator manual.

M100. Got it from Surplus Canada. I have a buddy looking for one like mime. But I can't find any new infomation.

Recently I inspected a 1953 M38A1CDN and the CFR number had been stamped in the same fashion; using a sideways 1 as a dash. maybe the same guy did it! On your data plate there is an inspector stamp (a common one I've seen is has the letters "I S" above and "E19" below) done I suspect at the factory. The CFR numbers were probably stamped after delivery.
Incidently the last 5 digits of the CFR number were also used as the Canadian Army license plate number, but often over the years the licence plates were mixed up during re-painting etc.

Actually all of the CDN M38's that I have worked on use a "1" for the dash. I have worked on, or inspected over a dozen M38CDN's. I think it was easier to use the "1" than to keep a seperate stamp for the dash.
