M38 Engine groud strap

Hello everybody

How long and how width is the ground strap that goes between the engine front plate and the motor mount on the M38

You should consider that the ground cable should be of the adaquate gauge. Because the current that is going thru the starter and engine block and back to the frame ground can have an good a path for the high current passing thru it. Other wise the starter might not perform as it should. I believe I am correct in saying this. If not somebody correct me.

You are correct. The ground strap must be equal to or larger than the sum of the cables feeding +24 volts to it. Generally that would be the combined loads for the starter, ignition and generator field.

Be aware you have clean and bare metal between all the ground connections, otherwise you can have problems, even with a 24 volt system where the cranking current is less critical in compare with a 6 or 12 volt setup.
