Hey!

I ran the engine today and it has good oil pressure.

My water pump leaks (which is the one that was on it from dissasembly). It did not leak before I took the engine apart.

I guess I need to get a new or rebuilt one.

i know the feeling after a freshly re-buit engine..how much oil p did you have at start up and then idle ????

At startup it went right to 40 PSI and then held steady at 60 PSI at a moderate rpm, Idle it is around 35 to 40 PSI.

My problem now is taking off the water pump and getting another that does not leak.

I guess the packing shrank while it was not run for the last 4 years.

That's good news on the engine Ryan! I'm hoping for similar success after several engine-related Winter projects here. As for the water pump... I guess that just follows Murphy's Second Law: Every solution results in a new problem. Oh well, you'll make quick work of it I'm sure.

Ryan, I rebuilt mine… it was not really hard to do… Please understand I did this in an attempt to save a few dollars and was successful. It could have as easily gone the other way...

I had to do this as I was unable to get the shaft out of my housing as per the manual (there is a section on rebuilding the water pump there) if you can get the shaft out just use a press and it will go a lot easier… maybe someday I can get one…

I bought the parts from A&P Trucks here in OKC. He sells on eBay quite a bit… He has a water pump on ebay right now for about $60...

After I got the kit, which included impeller, fiber gasket and a spring and gasket to put the pump back on with (Not sure of all the parts)

I used a drill press to drill from the rear of the water pump into the impeller beside the shaft… do not damage the shaft. (a hydraulic press will also work) (I used a drill press as I wanted a straight shot beside the shaft)

I then took a chisel and forced the impeller to crack at the point I drilled it out. I then removed the impeller and fiber gasket and spring. Replaced them, using a board and a brass hammer to drive the impeller back onto the shaft, I used plenty of white lithium grease to aid in this. A hydraulic press would be ideal for this stage… with luck it will go easily…
