I recently aquired a 1944 willys mb with what I am told is a 1953 F head ohv engine, The engine runs good and it drives ok, but needs quite a bit of work to make it dependable. I am looking for information on suspension, engine and drive train. The jeep has 33" tires on it but the shackle lift that was installed is junk! I will not be doing a complete resto on this, but don't want to butcher it up eather. any info would be greatly appricated.

Hi Eric,
All of the correct info on the MB can be found in it's manuals. Portrayal press sells reproduction manuals, and there is even a CD out there that can be obtained for ~25$ that has digital copies of the manuals.
The MBs had L-head engines in them, which were Flat heads -- both the intake and exhaust valves in the block. The M38A1 series had the F-head in it, which has the exhaust in the block and the intake in the head. It can be thought off as a cross between the flat heads and over head valve engines I suppose, but it is definitally not an OHV engine.
The F-Head engine is several inches taller than the L-Head. These several inches make the engine interfere with the closing of the hood (This is why the M38A1 and CJ3B have a higher hood).
