I have a question, I have a 1951 m38. The title just states 1951 Willys.
The vin number and body numbers match the title. How are some of your m38s titled? Does it say m38,1/4 ton or how is it described and listed on your title.

Thanks...... :?:

Does your title have all of these blocks:
1-Year
2-Make
3-Model
4-Weight Class

Which block on your title has "Willys" in it?

Yes, it has year, make, model, body and weight. Model and body blank.
It has Willys in the make box.

Often times the model block is left blank when there is no model listing on the civilian list for that particular vehicle. Call your DMV and ask if M38 is an available choice on their Willys model list for 1951. If it is not ask if there are any other choices on the model list like "Military" or "Government Model" or "Special Purpose". As long as your make and VIN match there should be no problem updating the title. Remember that the terms M38 and M38A1 & M170 are military designations for Willys models MC, MD and MD-A. So the correct model designation on your title should be MC not M38.

In Arizona, my title and others that I have seen only say:

1. Willys

2. M38

The titles have no mention of Jeep or 1/4 Ton.

The clerk at any DMV will probably not recognize an M38 if you drove it up to the counter. They often put down whatever you tell them. If you look closely at your data plate on your dash it's a Willys "Model M38 on early serial plates and "Willys MC" on later serial plates but the Willys patent plate always says MC. The Manufacturer's Model designation for the Willys military line of jeeps was MA, MB, MC, MD. & MD-A. The Military designation for them was MA, MB, M38, M38A1 & M170.

Indeed, mine actually says it's a 52 MB based on what the last owner told those fine ladies at the counter.
