I have a 59 cj5 willy, it blows pure gas smelling smoke. What causes this? The head was supposily redone.

Black, fuel smelling smoke means too rich. Too rich means either too much gas or too little air.

1-Choke stuck closed.
2-Carb float level set too high.
3-Carb metering rod stuck open.
4-Rubber diaphram bad in either the metering rod system or the accelerator pump system.
5-Exhaust system restricted.
6-Fuel pump pressure too high.

$100 to $250 for a rebuilt YF carb is expensive troubleshooting. Why not check the items in my list first? You may not need a carb.

My L-134 is running rough. I disassembled the Solex Carburetor and didn't see anything wrong. Do you think it could possibly still have something that is not obvious? I ordered a carb kit. It acts like a leaky valve although I ground them less than 2 years ago. I don't drive it much and it seemed to happen all at once. I am planning on taking a compression test tonight and see if they are equal.
