Leaking T-96 Transmission

Hello fellow Willys Jeep owners,
I have a 1950 Jeep with a T-96 w/overdrive. This transmission works well however it leaks profusely out of the input shaft. Upon disassembly it appears that there is no front seal. I do see that the t/o bearing housing has a spiral groove cut in it perhaps to throw the oil back towards the bearing. I have tried to obtain a seal but I am told it doesn't exist. Anyone have a solution for this?

yes so according to the diagram above there is no seal. It would appear that
6.040-2 is a shield to prevent oil coming through the input shaft bearing, perhaps mine is missing? thanks

It would be a guess. The oil slinger should be available and cheap if you wanted to have something on hand prior to starting.

So I checked and my bearing, which has been replaced I'm sure, has a metal shield built into the transmission side of it. There is no separate oil slinger or shield present. I'm thinking that perhaps originally the shield or 'slinger' pictured below simply covered what would have been an otherwise 'open' ball bearing and that the sheild that is built into the replacement bearing serves the same purpose perhaps? Anyone have any other suggestions?

Will this shield sling oil? I find no reference to a modification to remove the slinger

From what I can tell it takes a N307LOE bearing and that is not shielded on either side that I can tell.

i read somewhere on here a seal fix ,but not sure may have been somewhere else .I can tell you how i have fixed them for years on all types ,t84 and the t90s.Take your brg retainer or release brg collar to mechine shop and have it mechined for a seal ,which you will have to measure the shaft ,so they can find the correct size .I cant remember what the # is .It will stop your leak .

Worn input shaft bearings and flywheel pilot bushings will allow the input shaft to move about quite a bit thus aggravating the leak issue,

You can also machine a step in the bearing retainer for a garlock seal.
