It's time to buy 5 new tires for the M38

I called around and found:
Coker - has firestones at $115 each
Lucas - has Denman at $99 each
Wallace Wade - has "specialty tire" formerly Mcreary for $93 each
Others?

Tubes and flaps are reasonably close in price. All can ship in a day or two.

From experiences, are there any vendors or brands to avoid?

Have you confirmed who the actual manufacturer of the first two tires are? IE is the Firestone actually built by Firestone or is it a repop with Firestone on it?

I have OMAHA tires, calculated from euro = about 100 USD

Good question Wes - No, I didnt check to see if it was a USA Firestone or a Chinese knockoff. Its worth asking...

So I called Wallace Wade. Their tires are made in PA. Apparently the "Firestones" are made by the same place and braded as firestone. Without doing a lot of research is seems as if the difference in price between the Specialty Tire of America and Firestone is that you get to pay a royalty of about $20 per tire to firestone for the privilage of advertising their brand.

I purchased 4 Firestones for my M38 this summer from Coker. I ran them for a week and had one which was defective; a cord had not been molded properly, it let loose and cut the tube. I received great customer service from Coker to resolve the defect. I love the tires!

I too purchased these Firestone tires from Coker. When I did, they told me that Coker obtained the original Firestone molds from WWII, and use them to manufacturer this tire. So far, I am very pleased with the way the wear and look.

Also, when researching M Series Jeeps on the web, I have seen this style tire on some of the photo's from that period.

Original tires from the factory were BF Goodrich and Goodyear
NDCC (Non Directional Cross Country) tread with a more rounded edge than the WWII tires.

Just an FYI

What tires a person buys and puts on their jeep is thier business.

I bought Specialty Tires from a local vendor for 80.00 apiece. 16.00 apiece for each tube with the short fat valve. The manager of the store has a CJ3B that he runs these tires on. Had em in stock.

C&H tire of Ft. Smith AR. though I think he did me a favor. The balance job was A1! One wieght inside and one outside without scratching up the rim. The wieghts are LONG but looks better that two or three weights tacked on. They are NDT verses the NDCC but what the hey.

You got the inside-guy good price. They went to $90+ and now I understand they have gone over $100 each.

Those CJ3B guys are OK!
