Apparently I have a fuel/vacuum pump that has the hole for the primer lever next to the vent hole. From what I have read in this forum my March 1952 M38 did not have a primer equipt pump installed. My question:
1. Do I need to block this lever hole to make the vent system work properly?
2. Would someone like to trade a correct /rebuildable pump for this one?

1. That hole would only seep engine oil. It's open to the pump body, not the vacuum or fuel sides. The pump body, in turn, is open to the crankcase where the actuating lever goes through to ride the cam shaft. The handle had a rubber grommet-type gasket to keep the oil in. If you have anything coming through, it probably would be just oil vapor.
2. I could be wrong, but if you have the military dual action pump, you already have the correct one. I think there was only one type for the M-jeeps. Some have the handle, and some don't. I personally like having the handle. It saves some cranking when the system is dry. Simply plug the hole where the priming handle goes through, and you're set. You can get the rebuild kits from www.then-now.com They will need the number that is stamped somewhere around the mounting flange.
