M38 fuel/vac pump rebuild kit?

Does anyone know where I can purchase a Fuel/Vac pump rebuild kit for a m38? I already talk to pete Debella and a couple others and no luck!

Try Then and Now, they stock the kits or will rebuild it for you...

the rebuild kit is about half the cost of sending it to them to rebuild it. So is it a simple rebuild or better left to the pros?

Rebuild is easy as far as I can see, getting ready to order a kit for another motor for a Willys a L161 6 cyl flathead...

I rebuilt my M-38 fuel pump... no problems

I recently rebuilt my M38 fuel/vacuum pump with a kit from Then and Now. They sent a copy of instructions from a Motors Manual. This in addition to referring to the TM 9-1828A Fuel Pumps manual I found it "easy" to do. The people at Then and Now are very helpful and friendly. The wrong vacuum diaphram was included in the kit but replaced with a phone call (and then after breaking the correct one, they replaced that one with a phone call as well).
If you are not afraid of taking things apart in an orderly manner and following written instructions, then you should be able to rebuild your own pump.

I rebuilt both ends of my M38 pump with a kit from Then and Now. They included both the diaphrams and to let them know which one was correct for my pump. To get the right kit from them you will need to provide the number stamped on the pump flange where it bolts to the block. It was a fairly easy rebuild and its worked great ever since. :)

No special tools Shawn, the hardest part of the rebuild is getting the diaphram shafts on the lever... just need to be careful and get them on correctly...

Everything else is childs play...

8O Hi I m also facing the problem of looking a rebuild kit for my pump!!!any ideas??Im waiting reply from Then and Now shop.any other search??

if i want to replace the fuel pump with a single one operating.A civilian one (maybe from cj's) any ideas!!! :cry:

The stated dealer is the known best source for late material kits. Midwest and several other dealers offer rebuilt exchange dual action pumps.

The single action civvy fuel pumps are a direct bolt on. If you have no need for the vacuum assist (you are not using vacuum wipers) and if you are not restoring with original fording system vent system plumbing this will work. You do not use the thick spacer with the single action pump. Just order a single action fuel pump that would fit a 1950 CJ3A.

ok the news from Then and Now is that:"Yes, we do make kits for the M38 pumps, please give me the numbers stamped on the side of the flange, where it mounts to the motor "

It was my understanding that then and now would not sell the parts to rebuild a pump, but would only repair your pump if you sent it in. That was when I was trying to get parts to rebuild my pump about 6 years ago.
Maybe it has changed now.
John at MidWestMil said that he only had the upper kit. I guess that would be the fuel side.

Then & Now was selling kits for the last several years. They need to know the part number on the mounting flange of your pump to insure they send you the correct kit. Some pumps have the full part number on the flange and some only have the last four digits of the part number on the flange.
