My M38 will idle really rough if I haven't driven her for a while. After a few miles she then kicks right into full step - smooth as can be .

Any ideas as to waht could be causing this????

Most likely culprit is sticking valve. Do a compression cold before you start it the next time it has sat awhile. Then do a vacuum gage test set while it is running rough.
