What is the length of the generator to regulator cable for the M38. Also, did it have a 90 at one, both, or neither end? What is the diameter. I have one for an M151. It'll do the job but it's pretty thick and has no black coating on it. It will stick out like a soar thumb if I decide to use it.

Thanks Ken. Great pictures. That cable looks similar to mine only mine does not have the black rubber coating. I wonder if there is any way to add this coating?

The rubber on my cable was of poor quality and would tear in places. I just ripped it all off and wraped the cable with a good brand of electrical tape. I don't know but who ever puts military cables together, why don't they put some heat shink tube on them to cover the shield braid on the ends. Like the spark plug cables made with showing the shield braid at the ends. Pxxs poor job IMO.

You can disassemble one plug and use a length of heat shrink tubing that fits snug almost to each end. Then shrink it and then add two more pieces about 2" long. Then install the one plug. Then slide the two 2" pieces out to each end and heat shrink them.

I thought about that. But I wasn't sure if I could unsolder the armoured connection and put it back together neatly. I might would try it if I had an old one to practice on.

Are the plugs hard to disassemble? I think I'll try it. I found a place that sells generator to regulator cables for $25. I'll give that a shot first then post the results here.

I tried to take gen/reg cable apart to shorten it but I gave up, I couldn't get the grommet and pins separated.
