I know I read it on here somewhere but I can't seem to locate it now by searching so could somebody please help out my memory......I'm replacing all my f head bolts with new hardware......which bolts get the sealant on them.....or do they all get sealant........and what kind of sealant is it? Also.....engine gaskets.......do they get treated...or go on dry? If they get treated......what kind of treatment. Finally.....anyone got a good detailed picture of an engine-transmission-transfer case all being hoisted at once using flat strap? I finally defeated all the rusted hardware holding my tub on my frame and got it lifted off......now its time to tackle the power plant. thanks.

I'm no expert as it is my first so take this with a grain of salt. I used permatex on all my head bolts. Figured it wouldn't hurt the ones that don't need it. I also used the same on all the non cork gaskets other than the head gasket. Nothing on the head gasket-dry. I've never heard of any thing other than dry on any engine for the head gasket. Soaked my cork gaskets in oil- wiped off and installed.

Now to get flamed.

Oh and my engine/transmission/transfer came out using the engine lift bracket just like it shows in the maintenance manual. Same angle as shown. I just grabbed the tail shaft of the transfer to level when I lowered. My M170 had no lift bracket so I had to buy that first but hey it's suppose to have one so it soothed my soul to get it.

Permatex # 1 on the head studs that have their hole go all the way through to the water jacket.

Head gasket dry.

Thanks guys. The gaskets I was refering to are like the oil pan gasket, oil pump gasket, timing gear cover gasket......not so much the head gasket. And does anyone know where one can find one of the f-134 engine lifting brackets? Mine is long gone...that's why I was just going to sling the engine.....but if they are still available I'd get one.
