In preparation for mounting my VRC-10 (RT68) radio in my M-38 I have found that to keep the rear seat I will have to lower the seat and keep it down. Has anyone else discovered this also... or is there another way to do it...

I plajn on using the oak radio mount blocks I purchased from Rod a few years ago...

I don't see anything in this drawing that forces the relocating of the rear seat.

Do you happen to have any pice of the prc 10 and am598u mounted in am m38? Where can I get the oak blocks for mounting?

They are simple to make or you can buy them from Rod Nowland.

When I test fit the MT-299 mmount and the oak blocks, the rear seat will not fold down. There is not enough room for the bottom of the seat to pass by the mount...

This is my observation...

your observation is correct. you have to leave the seat in the down position or, leave it out.

The VRC-10 only uses the space of the front two thirds of the left wheel house. That means the rear seat can stay right where it is in the back rest up and lower cushion down position. I see no reason to remove the rear seat. Why do you feel compelled to remove the rear seat?

Wes, Possible misunderstanding here, do not want to remove the seat... Want to be able to fold it up if needed... to give me more storage room... With the radio installed the seat must be left down in the seat position or left folded up in the storage position... no movement option with the radio installed...

Armed with your new post I would have given you Ken's answer as well.

I don't like the ddrawing installation becuase it puts the radio and it's weight on the left side of the jeep increasing the jeep's natural lean to the left. I have seen several period correct photos of both the M38 and the M38A1 with the VRC insatllation and the PRC installations on the right wheel house. This balances the load better and allows you to see the radio if you have one that works and you want to use it. Not all Army units were manned full enough to give every radio operator a jeep driver.

Yes, I sent him one PM about a month ago and he replied, I have send him some others and heard nothing.

I have a pair of blocks I made available. I can send pix. They're hard wood but not oak.
