Clutch Advise

A jeeper friend of mine has a clutch problem that needs all the brains that is available. He has rebuilt a 1960 DJ3A--this is a 2 wheel drive, L134, column shift CJ3A. It uses all the standard clutch parts. He has too much gap between the plate fingers and the throwout bearing. !/2 inch --not the 1/16 to 1/8 inch that is correct.
He is in Atlanta, I am in Minnesota. All help greatly appreciated.

What comes to mind right off is the clutch fork. Is both the heavy steel fork and the lighter spring steel tensionor fully in the main groove of the release bearing TOGETHER?

Also be sure the old parts are the same dimension as the new parts. IE distance from flywheel to clutch ringer tips is the same and the length of the relaease bearing is the same.
Also the clutch release cross tube often gets reversed. It fits either way. The longer bellcrank belongs closest to the bell housing.
