What is the reinforcement on the top rear corner of the tub?

I have this modification on the body of my M38 and have noticed it on a few other pictures of M38s. I presume it was done to add the trailer coupling or radio mount connection but would be interested in learning more about the reasoning why it was done, when, etc. Thanks.

The weight of the Arctic top and the hanging rear add-ons (Tire and gas can) were proving too much for the aft side of the rear corners. This of course was a problem with operations in the field where terrain roughness could be quite harsh.

The factory started the program and the MWO initiated it as a field improvement on the early models that came without it.
