M38--43 GPW----Great Race!!

My M38 is much slower than my freinds 43 GPW off the stop sign. How much more does a M38 weigh than a GPW ?

the greater weight is probably not the biggest reason. the m38 is lower geared as well.

Off the line The MB/GPW has the advantage of the lighter weight.
The MB/GPW's 4.88:1 axle drive ratio and the smaller diameter 6.00-16 tires actually almost equal out the M38's 5.38:1 axle ratio and larger diameter 7.00-16 tires. Their final at the surface drive ratios are almost identicle.
All this assumes the engines are in equal health and tune and clutches are operating at the same efficiency level for both.

We own a M38 and a 1942 gpw with a cj3a engine, the GPW is indeed faster, drives easy 60 mph and faster , the m38 55 max. Both jeeps are in good condition, the m38 drives smoother, the GPW nervously.
