Fitting up my manifolds I have a large space between them,
Is this normal? I have a FelPro gasket set and the gasket
might fill half the space.


Bolt it up and get the die grinder out and make it fit??

There is a gasket that goes in there; it is not very thick though...

I took mine to a machine shop and they bolted them together with the gasket then milled the surfaces that go against the block as a unit to get them smooth. Best thing I could have done... Prior to that I had major vacuum leaks...

I would loosen every thing up and test fit first to be sure it will all line up and then tighten the manifolds together then tighten against the block...

That's entirely too large a gap. Your exhaust manifold will most likely crack quickly if you try to force a fit. My guess is the exhaust and intake manifolds are not an original set. You must do what Hal suggested and take both manifolds fsatened together and torques with a new gasket to the machinist and have him mill them flat as a set. Also be sure to straight edge check the side of the engine.

Took them off the engine tonight and bolted them up and
They sure look nice they but dont fit very well.

It would be a benefit to the group to know more about those manifolds so we can avoid the same problem. Are they or is one a repro or are they from other applications or???

Does your intake have any markings? Does the exhaust manifold have any markings?
Original exhaust manifolds have a tit pointing toward the fender on each ramhorn. WOF manifolds have casting letters/numbers on the ramhorns.

I did see an incredably bad repro that was being sold by a vendor. it would have taken tremendous effort to machine it to fit.

Lets try to identify what you have.

Repro exhaust from Krage ,that was ordered 12 months ago.
No marking on the casting and was drop shipped from Omix-ADA

PS I would only buy one if you have a large surface grinder.

In the mean time I see a simple solution for you.


This space (A) will need a spacer fabricated preferably from a sheet of stainless that when added to two gaskets will equal the dimension (B) in the next photo.


This dimension (B) can be corrected by adding a spacer between the intake and exhaust at dimension (A) in the first photo.

Once this is done all you should need to do is have a machinist grind the excess from the exhaust port faces to match the intake in the next photo dimension (C).



Then you can correct nut bearing surface using a stepped washer or by wellding additional material to exhaust in the area of offset (D) in the next photo.



Or you could send these photos to Krage and ask for an intake that matches the exhaust they sent you. Make sure the intake they send you will have the two primer ports, PCV port and the vacuum source port on the top aft end of the manifold.
