Hub Race Question

I got new brake drums for the M38A1 and took them to the machine shop to have them turned true to rotation with the hub.
The machinist told me one of the front hubs on the inside bearing the race is loose in the hub. He thinks it will stay seated ok but might require the hub to be replaced.
Are there any tricks the old timers have to help make the race hold its seat?
I remember one time the solution of the rear differential loose race was to prick around the seat for the race with a punch. Can that be done for the hub?
