New Download: testing military 24V systems

Hey,

I just added a new download on testing military 24 V systems. It is a U.S. Army Ordnance publication from 1956 in an easy to read format with lots of illustrations to make it as simple as it can be.

Check it out under the 24 Volt system file on the downloads main page.

Hey,

It is for testing the regulator, generator and some distributor stuff.

Bob Westerman has a copy of the gauge testing TM on his website.

Hi,
Does anyone know if/how the tests for the generator and regulator that are outlined in the guide can be conducted without the generator and regulator adapters? It appears the other tests can be done with a standard multi-tester.
Thanks for the information. Did this guide come from the PS magazine?

Yes this came from PS Magazine. I went page by page through all the years from when it began in 1951 and picked out the stuff that was of interest to the M38, M38A1, M606, M170 and M37.

I am gradully organizing it into download pdf files by category. There is a lot of info on tanks, helicopters, etc. but that is not a priority for now.

The adapter kits are still available through several of the dealers like Jeff Smith.

We would probably know how to rig your modern day test equipement without the adapters. 8)

The test meters are not the issue. Makes no difference weather you use the 50 year old Military Vehicle Low Voltage test set and timing lite and dwell meter and alternator/generator test set and coil /condenser test set or their current day replacements. It is the adapters used to provide a functional fit in-line with the equipment so it can be operating and the indiviual connections opened, closed or just tapped when needed.

It would take you at least several hours to piece together your own adapters for each connection using individual plug pins and wiring to replace the adapters and it would probably only be half as reliable and safe to use as the correct adapter kits which sell for around $80. Most folks will value their time at a rate of at least $30 an hour.
