OK excuse my ignorance.

I've just been going through the pictures here in the photo gallery.

I see there are some MP M38s that have windscreen wipers coming down from the top of the windscreen frame and the wiper drive spindle appears to pass through the canvas top?

Also I see two types of bonnet blocks?

I guess this has been gone through before but my search threw nothing up.
Are these changes mods during the production run?
Thanks,
Dave

Stock M38 windshield has wipers at the bottom.

Military heater equipped M38's have the wipers moved to the top of the windshield and relocate the hood blocks.

It's all in the TB's for the heater installs.

I have yet to hear or find an explanation for the "L" shaped hood blocks on the M38's pictured in Europe that I think your referring to.

The L shaping of the hood blocks makes the moving and drilling holes per the Heater TB's unnecessary. This allows the windshield frame to rest on the high part and the waiper blade to tuck into the notch.

Ah....interesting.

Was the cabvas hood put on over the bare wiper spindles, and then the wiper blades re-fitted?

That particular TM I don't think I have.

You are correct.

Look closely and you will also see the notched hood blocks

Wes, where is that photo taken, it looks to me the same buliding as the Belgium army has after the second worldwar on different locations in Germany. I did my military service in 1979 and it is the same building as in Westoven, near Köln. This weekend i will look for about the same photo's, but with belgian CJ3a military jeeps. Is this perhaps an USA base ?

I pulled that off the 385th MP Battalion's web site from the 50's and 60's at Stuttgart GE
