Windshield Gaskets for 1961 M38A1

Post by madmike »

I will need to replace the windshield gasket as part of my restoration of a 1961 M38A1. The factory gasket has a bead in the middle, I'm guessing to tighten the gasket after the glass is in place in the frame. Would anyone know if this gasket is available new, and if this is a difficult replacement? Should I have two more guys and a case of beer on hand to accomplish this task or will they just make it worse? A satisfactory vendor recommendation would be much appreciated if possible.

Lastly, would the origanal gasket have been painted or installed after paint and remains black?

Thanks for the assist. This site is a great help!!!

after you get the new gaskets, let the company that your buying the glass from install it so if it gets broke its on them, I had a company go through 4 sets of glass before they got a windshield installed in my 51 willys pickup
