I replaced a head gasket on a l134, and should have paid attention to the rotor position when the head was off, but didn't (duh!). when I bought this cj2, the head, and sparkplug wires were off. Question-aproximately what would the rotor position be when firing on the #1 cylinder.

Hello Jay,
The only way to be sure is to bring #1 cylinder up TDC on compression and where the rotor points is where you put #1 plug wire. The normal position is about the 5:00 o'clock position as you look straight down at the distributor from the passenger side fender.
Unless, you had the distibutor out of the block for some reason. If this is the case the service manual goes into great detail on how to position the oil pump correctly for the installation of the distributor which will only mate one way with the oil pump shaft.
