The m38a-1 I'm working on had already been converted to 12v by the time I got it.....so its going to stay that way for now. What I'd really like to do though is come up with a better way of mounting the 12Si alternator. As it was it only had a single groove pulley which was kinda out of line with either groove in the crankshaft and water pump pulleys so the belt was pretty frayed. I can only imagine how often they had to change their lone belt.
What I'd like to do is change out the alternator pulley for a dual groove pulley and come up with a good mounting bracket that puts the alternator in-line with everything else. Does anyone have some good pics of what you've come up with to do this? I'm willing to do anything just so long as it uses the existing holes in the front mounting plate and doesn't require altering any part of the stock engine. Here's a kind of a look at what I'm starting with..

I just recently bought the bracket already made for the alt complete with the spacers for a single belt pulley and a straight bracket coming off the water pump bolt and lines up good with the crank pulley from Willy`s Works, Inc. Ph. [520]888-5082 in Tucson, AZ This was for an M-38 and works good but I thought it was kind of pricey for what I got. Give Rob Braun a call and I`m sure he can fill you in on any info that you might need. I had also found plans on how to build the bracket I think on the CJ-2a pages
This is a very simple bracket to build. You may want to build your own and set the "U" bracket relative position fore/aft to center the correct dual groove pulley with the other two pulleys.
Any auto electrical shop can supply you with the correct two groove pulley for the alternator.
