Post by Jeepnut »

Were lifting brackets ever installed on the M38 engine?

Lifting bracket

Post by skyjeep50 »

The bracket for a M38 is a plate with two ring bolts that extend upwards. One ring is for lifting the engine only, the other balances the engine and transmission if lifted toghters. The bracket for a M38A1 is a large metal loop shaped like a "M". Each of the loops does the same job as the rings on the M38 lifting loop.[/img]

The lifting bracket, shown in the manual, is a sort of
"U" shaped affair, with rings on the open end. I've read
that you use a particular 'ring' for lifting the engine in
different ways/directions. The bracket bolts to the top
of the engine at the bottom of the "U". The manual
should assist you.

Most forward lift point is for engine only, most reward lift point is for the the complete power plant lifting which includes the radiator, engine, bell, tranny/transfer.

They use to be only $20 but the vendors have rolled the price to over $45 the past two years. They are readily available.
