Strata blue from factory BO light?

I am cleaning up a take off black light and under the hunter spray paint is yellow, then strata blue, primer, then metal.

No sign of any army colors.

It is strata blue and then primer even on in the inside of the light.

Could it have come from the factory in this color or do the air force really take the time to dissemble the light, strip it, and then repaint it?

Many parts during the late 50's and 60's were delivered to the USAF in Strata Blue. The Willys blue prints were updated in the 60's to allow for Strata Blue finish on items ordered by the USAF.

A later CAP repaint or civvy restoration could have painted it blue as well.

my 51 m38 is painted factory strata blue, ive found blue in behind all the parts ive removed as a base color like your b.o. light including behind the shocks on the frame, places where the military wouldnt have took parts off to do a repaint , the air force would have had to do a complete frame off chemical stripping of the whole jeep piece by piece to repaint it blue if it didnt come from the factory that way.

Or the first civvy restoration 40 years ago completely stripped the whole jeep and painted blue.

I think my 52 was factory blue as well. I have found no green on it and it is blue in place no 18 year old in a motor pool is going to paint.

did you find your hood numbers?

yes original hood numbers are intact, has original artic hardtop with matching numbers on it too, there is no green on this jeep whatso ever if this is a 40 year old restoration then whoever done it went to more detail then than people do now in m38 restorations, but I guess its possible just not probable based on evidence found so far.

Also mine did have a hard top but I never looked for markings before I sold it.
