M38A1. What's it worth?

Post by 52M38 »

Hi all. I'm looking to buy a 52 M38A1 but I dont know what it's worth. I know that to a seller it's worth alot. But as a buyer It ain't worth squat. I don't know. The guy says it's all there and I have no dout. It looks good. It has all the data plates, blackout lights and even lift shackels on the back. The paint on the hood has been rubbed off to show hood numbers but not all that ledgeble. It looks to have the original engine with ys carb and all the 24 volt stuff and snorkel air cleaner. There is little to no rust but there is some damage to the right rear corner. I don't know. HELP!! I want to show photo's bu can't get them to post.

is it running?
does it stop?
has anything been brought up to servicable levels lately? (Brakes, clean fuel system, canvas, drivetrain rebuilds?)
Is the body all original steel or is it bondo covering poorly done steel patches?
What condition is the frame? paint over rust or smooth steel?
When you say the paint shows hood numbers does that mean it has original paint as released from the military?

Pictures will go a long way in identifying what you see.

also for comparison shopping look through the for sale section on this site and the g503. There are usually pictures that you can compare against.

What you describe can be valued anywhere from $1500 to $3000. As Tom says if you are asking for a valid detailed appraisal you'll need to give the appraiser something to work with.

You can easily post your photos to your photo album on this web site and folks can go there to view them. The whole photo posting thing depends on your ability to get the photos loaded from your computer to a web site.

Here's the link to your personal photo album:
