Hi Guys

My first post on the forum, and last weekend I took the plunge.......

Last weekend bought the above vehicle ( My first foray into Willys jeeps). It's a good runner and needs some restoring, but all in all very original and in pretty good condition.

Vehicle was built I think in 1956 and was packed up and sent to the Royal Dutch Army.

I have a couple of questions I would like to ask.

On running the engine a small hiss comes from radiator cap, almost as if the pressure spring setting on the cap may be wrong ( previous owner bought it from an auto jumble). What is the correct pressure setting for a radiator cap, and can you still get the P/No. 7375030 cap, and, if not is there a reproduction replacement for it? ( not sure but is the pressure 4 1/2 psi)

I would like to replace the Dutch language data plates (eventhough I can't read much Dutch!!!!) on the passenger dash, I have only come across the English ones at the moment, can anyone point me in the right direction?

Did the NEFAK jeeps have the Willys overland plate fitted to them, if so I can't find it, I have looked on the dash and the passenger seat wheelhouse to no avail.

About the NEKAF, you can reach Dirk Leegwater in NL. He sells parts for CMPs and WWII US army vehicles but I'm sure he knows well this type of jeep. Here is his website: http://www.lwdparts.com/

Hi Nick, I also just bought a NEKAF M38a1 about a month ago, didn't even try to start it yet but its all original right on down to the tires from Holland.. I am not sure if I am going to restore it or sell it the way it is... May even part it out although I feel that would be my last option as its in to good of condition to do that.. wish I could figure out how to post pics of it so I can get some advice from the ones who know what I should do!!! If there is any interest I am willing to sell it as is for 2750.00... the seller said she runs great but there is a problem with the distributor and it needs the cap needs to be loose to run??? haven't looked into it yet but sounds like a new type of problem to me..

I have a CDN3 Jeep and I am turning it into a NEKAF copy. I got my Dutch data plates from Dirk Leegwater, as Guy indicated. I also got lights and a front bumper from him.

Salut Barry,

Hope you and Janet are well. Nic, Barry knows Dirk very well and I'm sure both will give you very good tips.

Hey Barry, are you going to do part of The Blue Balls Express ride with our group next summer? The first night, we expect to sleep at Prescott... not too far from Castleton :wink: Even in the fury of the front, we expect to find friendship and beers too :D

If you are American and you are thinking about turning your typical Royal Netherlands Army M38A1 (Nekaf) into a U.S. Army M38a1, please read this!

There used to be a combined US/Dutch custodian unit called "23rd KL/US Custodian Detachment" or "23 KLUS Det" in a small Dutch village called 't Harde. This American/Dutch unit had to protect the 'special' Honest John and Lance missile warheads in former special ammunition storage SAS Doornspijk and also used...Nekaf-Jeeps!!
So there was a small U.S. Army unit that actually used Nekafs ... with Dutch markings.

I would keep a Nekaf as a Nekaf. At least in the states they are not that common and have a lot of details better suited to modern traffic than the original M38A1's.

Wow my original thread keeps going, I am indeed keeping my Jeep as a NEKAF, after 5 years restoring with about another 2 years to go I am finally beginning to see the finishing line for my Jeep.
