On the m38a-1.....on the passenger side of the vehicle.....there is a "T" fitting with a plug in it on the fuel line. Did this plug serve some maintenance purpose (like checking for the presence of fuel) or was it like a pre-installed tap for some kind of fueled accessory?

On another matter...regarding the rear cross-member....how come it wasn't "centered" on the frame...but instead extended farther out on the driver's side then the passenger's side? Is this because of an interference problem on the right....or the need for more support on the left?

Finally....I don;t know if its just this vehicle or if this is common....but I learned another valuable lesson last night. Install the driver's side radiator support BEFORE installing the engine. If you wait until the motor mount is installed with the engine sitting on it there is no way that the radiator support rod can be inserted into the groove under the motor mount........the frame gets in the way.

1-The plug was for the supply line to the dash mounted engine primer pump.

2-The rear cross member stamping is shared with the civvy jeeps which have a pair of license plate mounting holes on the left side.

3-Yes it is quite difficult to install the engine mount to radiator braces when the mount is already installed. But if you closely follow directions in the manual then the mount is unbolted from the frame not from the engine on removal (this leaves the rod in there) and the mount is installed on the engine before the engine and mount are installed on the frame (hence it is assumed you put the entire assembly on the engine before the engine is dropped in).

#2 got my blood pressure up until I tracked down the answer. I thought bubba had been at it again.
