Fuel guage

Post by Rick_L »

Over the past couple of weeks, my gas guage has been behaving erratically. Whne I fill the tank up, the guage correctly reads full. The next time I start the Jeep up, it will only go to 1/2, ans stay there until the fuel level actually hits 1/2, and then start reading correctly. I assume that this is something in the sending unit. The wiring harness is new, ans I pulled the sending unit and visually inspected it. It looks OK. Is there any type of cleaning or servicing that can be done? I didn't see anything that was obvious during a quick visual inspection. The arm seems to travel freely, and the float doesn't appear to have any leaks.

Rick,
Sounds like the resistor on the float but to be sure run Bob's Mil Gage TS Chart. http://www.willys.i8.com/gbc/milgage.htm
