engine swap

Post by tinpan »

I have a 52 m38a1 that my son and I are going to try to bring back to life . the previous owner installed an old ford 289ci engine w/ headers, I would like to return to a 4cyl engine. would the PO have had to move the original motor mounts ?? What 4cyl engines can I use ? The 289 is connected to the original tranny.

M38A1

Go into the photo gallery on this site and surf through the pictures. I am sure that some one has some pictures of an unmolested M38A1 frame. Or, post a picture of your frame's motor mounts here.

frame details

Post by tinpan »

Thanks guys for all the detailed frame specs and pics, thats a ton of good info. It looks like all the PO had to do to install the 289 , was to add an adapter plate from the engine to the original frame mounts, so we will be in good shape to convert back to a 4cyl,
