Generator-to-Voltage Regulator cable ID?

The generator-to-regulator cable on my M38A1 is past its prime (broken lock rings, missing insulation, etc.) so I took a chance to order another from a guy with some used M-series parts. The one on my A1 is 20" long (not counting the couplings) and about 1/2" thick. The one I just received is 31" long and about 3/4" thick with the same straight couplings at both ends. Obviously this isn't an A1 cable. Can anyone help identify which M-series vehicle it would belong to? Thanks!

That's a tough question. Without the ORD part number or stock number it will be impossible to assert with any accuracy what M series vehicle it goes on based on the length alone. There is no guidance in the M38A1 ORD 9 for length. There are two manufacturers, General Electric and Titeflex who produced cables for the Army spec on ORD PN 8329736 which is also ORD stock number G758-8329736 which is also FSN 6145-322-7205 which also has the Willys PN 806409. I would think the length for this part number was the same for either manufacturer but the housing (shield) and it's chaff coating could vary in color, texture, material and size quite a bit.

The A1 cable I have is 25" tip of connector to tip of connector. It's sleeve is about 5/8" diameter smooth black neopreme with nicely molded ends at the plugs in a brownish color.

The M38 cables I have were probably ORD PN 7762732 or 7539500 made by Titeflex . Both were ORD stock # G742- xxxxxxx which makes them originally used on the Reo 2.5 ton trucks. were closer to 30" long.
