In the local paper we have similar advertisements. Can't speak for this collector? but things are not always what they appear to be.

After trying to sell a WWII jeep in the recent past 4 out of 4 of these mass collectors who contacted me fessed up that they were buying Willys jeeps and Gpw's to ship to England to sell for parts or for restoration. Apparently, there is a shortage of WWII jeeps in the UK to restore. Even junk restoration projects sell there for a mint is what I have been told by UK friends.

Container loads going overseas is what I have been told.

Legal but somehow offensive, it is an unfortunate trend.

These guys have serious money to play with and don't care about the crazy shipping costs. It's unbelievable what they will buy. I've met three different people that have sold messed up stuff to a guy over in the U.K. and he doesn't seem to care about the condition.

Just for fun I did a whois lookup. He's in California!

This sounds like one of the guys I encountered.

They are fairly well organized and operate out of one of the ports in New Jersey on the east coast. All the direction and emails originate from England. When I pointed out to the guy trying to buy my jeep that I knew he was in England by his URL address he said he has crews of people working here in the states and not to worry. Legitimate or not I felt like it was another scam of some sort and stopped contact. That they did not care about even seeing the jeep was a big red flag. I was told it "did not matter what it looked like".

Their method of operation is apparently to scan Craigslist and other internet based websites here in the U.S. where vehicles are listed for sale. I was offered to have my jeep picked up by a rollback truck that was to be "dispatched" (their word) from New Jersey. They would pay me with a check (probably fake, maybe real) drive off with the jeep back to New Jersey where I was told they were loading up containers for shipment back to the UK. Distance is not an issue with these guys.

Another guy who contacted me awhile back mentioned tractor-trailer loads of jeeps being hauled away. To where?

The UK guy was really insistent (another red flag) did not want pictures or care about normal stuff like titles, registrations etc. That was when he told me they were going to England.

Sadly, they appear to be scouring the east coast for jeeps and are hauling away whatever they can find. 1 by 1.

While I guess this is legal it seems bizarre that a guy operating from another country can do this here.

Our brokers do it there as well. It is a 2way street. Usually the higher priced MV's will follow the higher money rates. When the US Dollar is low the MV's and aircraft tend to move towards the foreign country. When the foreign countries money is low the MV's and aircraft tend to move towards the US.
It's not illegal from the type transaction view point.

Be careful of foreign buyers thats all.

The english are probably doing all this MV restoration because they have nothing else to do. The governmnet took all their guns and knives away so might as well turn some wrenches before they are outlawed as weapons.

I think you hit the nail on the head. I have several friends from Australia and U.K. and there is no difference between us and them. I think they get their fix for the militaria stuff by way of Jeeps.
