TM 11-5055 covers the AM598 and it's installation.
TM 11-5038 covers the control group accessories.
TM 11-612 covers the PRC-8, -9, -10.
Signal Corp drawing SC-D-28685 shows the M38/M38A1 installation just behind the driver's seat/

Wes,
the pics help a lot. I will be mounting mine this weekend. it will go on the passenger side instead of the drivers side. I try to mount like the one in the pictureon the m38a1 but didnt have the room. I now have the wood spacers for an mt299 that I am modifying to use.

Lowell,
Try google searching the manual numbers. I often find free PDF download copies that way.

should I repaint it or leave it alone?

It's in a beautiful original condition, why repaint? I'd vote for leaving the finish as it is but the decision is yours, of course.

In every day use the components were usually serviced individually thus if the radio failed it would be swapped with a loaner or replacement while the power supply stayed withe the jeep and vice versa with the power supply so colors would usually differ somewhat depending on what stocks the units were pulled from and what level the last repairs were done at.
