Well I just got back from Colorado with my "New" M170.
The good; two drivers seats, original upper stretcher racks, lower stretcher racks, complete medic's seat, correct widshield, floor boards are really good, gas tank is shiny inside but has a good size dent in it, all 24 volt stuff with extra starter and generator, spare tire carrier. The drive train seems complete, battery box looks really good. Complete top bows. The frame is straight including the rear cross member. Has the rear drive shaft. The body is pretty straight; only normal repairs needed ( it is 55 years old). I saw no rot in the traditional areas underneath.

The bad; the rear floor by the tail gate is shot. I think a new M38A1 panel will fit. It's missing the doors, the stretcher supports on the drivers fenderwell and the passenger floor. The motor is an early version MD-112??? with a cuno filter, no lift rings front or rear, no air filter. The grill has been cut on the inside for no known reason, no radiator. Missing the FRONT drive shaft and the parking brake assembly on the transfer case.

I picked this up at a compound full of WW2 vehicle restorers that were having a MVPA meeting at the time of my arrival. They all seemed mystified that I was bothering to restore M170's. Made me feel like a second class citizen. I saw a GPA, GPW some sort of Davey Crockett missle launcher tracked vehicle, lots of 21/2 ton trucks, a WW2 2-1/2 ton truck weather station equiped, WC trucks etc.

Sounds like you have the beginnings of a very good project.
The grill has been cut on the inside for no known reason,
Perhaps it had the 100 amp generator system installed that places the rectifier in between the grill bars and the radiator?

Made me feel like a second class citizen.
I know that feeling. It was that G503 prevailing attitude 10 years ago that launched me into post WWII M Jeeps web site development.
