Hi All,
Can anybody tell me if there is clearance for the Pto shifter by the drivers seat frame when there is an OD installed.
Thanks,

Does this mean you acquired a certian winch? Vernco has an article on installing a PTO with an OD on a CJ-2A.

Hi Rick,
No, I got one out of Maine. Not Orig but a Ramsey 4000# complete. The installation is not the problem, the problem looks like there might be interferance with the drivers seat frame. I may just mount the pto, less shifter and see where the hole needs to be cut. That will answer my own question.

Well for those of you who want to know, If you have a Warn overdrive and want to install a winch and retain the OD, it will work! BUT you will have to modify the rt seat mount ,Drivers sideinside leg. (move forward approx 1") and all will fit. I hate to give up the OD but I like the winch set-up on the M38. Any coments?

Larry
If it was me I would just make the modification to the seat frame. But my frame has already had some modification to it so it wouldnt matter much to me. The extra hole in the floor would bother me for a minute but it can always be fixed with a welder later on.

Larry,
You can buy reproduction seat frames that are very close to the originals from what I have been told. I would get one of those and see about modifing it.
I always hate to cut up original stuff.
Post some photos when you get it done. Sounds very interesting.

Using a repo seat frame sounds like a good plan.

Well this is what I what I am going to do. Leave the OD, install the PTO, remove the original seat frame and install one from a 52 cj3a. That I have. That leaves the right side open. The mounting legs ont he 3a seat frame are both in the front, thus not cutting the M38 seat frame and saving it for later possible install. I will get pictures when the install is complete.

Where did you find the parts to rebuild the winch?

Bill,
The bearings and seal can be got for any good bearing house. I took my old ones to Eastern Bearing in Manchester and they had everything in stock. The gaskets I made using the old ones for a pattern. I have to make the driveshaft longer to make-up for the od.
