Since my installed Fuel Pump wasn't original I thought I could replace it with one that will fit any L134 Engines. So I ordered a Fuel Vacuume Pump that is manufactured from Airtex. The one I got was from Omix Ada (Omix#:17709.03) still for all Jeep Models even the M38 but it doesn't fit. The lower vacuum part is to big in the diameter and sits against the Engine front plate so that its not possible to install it correct.
Are the civi Engines any diverend in the front Plate or is just the Fuel Pump wrong?
The installed Fuel Pump was just Fuel no Vacuum.
Did anyone else hat problemes with replacement Pumps?
I will send the Omix one back and want at least a quality replacement and not made in china.
What Pump can I use? exept the original ( To expensive)

Yes the civy front motor mount plate is differant than the M38 front plate. and so is the location of the motor mount on the frame. the tab on the front plate is bent to the front of the jeep. I had the same problem and changed the civy front plate out and installed the correct M38 plate.
good luck

I'm no expert....and my experience was with an m38a-1 with an F-head engine....but what I found was....with a dual action pump.....you need to put a spacer between the engine block and the fuel block. This spacer will put the pump in a position such that the lower wide area of the pump will fit into a rectangular hole in the front mounting plate. Its kind of close but it definitely cleared everything on mine. The thickness of the spacer varies depending on the model of dual acting pump you are using so you need to make sure you have the correct spacer. My understanding is this also places the pump actuating arm in the correct relationship to the camshaft so that the fuel pressure is correct. Good luck.

Jim brings up a good point. The spacer does make a difference in pressure. Trying to use a civilian dual fuel/vac pump is a challange in both fitting and correct pressure. There's not that much of a price gap between the correct M38 pumps and the quality US built civvy pumps.
The left mount tab bent aft is a pre 1952 issue. All CJ's and M38/M38A1's had the left mount forward from 1952 on.
