fuel line question

I have a question regarding the connection between the rigid in-frame fuel line in this m38a-1 and the fuel pump. The replacement fuel line I received is 5/16" so the invert 90 degree fitting that I screwed into the fuel pump is a 1/8" NPT x 5/16" inverted female. I thought this would make up to the 7" piece of flexible line but I was wrong. It seems the flexible hose has 1/4" inverted fittings. Is this by design...or did I get some off-the-wall POS? I can take the fuel pump off (again) and put in an 1/8"NPT to 1/4" invert and use the flexible line...but will this cause a flow or volume restriction? Would I be better off finding a piece of flexible hose with 5/16" inverted fittings and stay consistant throughout the plumbing? Just fyi....I'm not installing a fuel cut-off valve but I am putting an inline fuel filter in its place....so the space between the fuel pump and the end of the rigid fuel line is kinda tight. Thanks for any and all replies.
