My 51 M38 stick shift is stuck. Any advise on things to check or do before I rip into it?

Jack up one side of the rear and front axles (with
jack stands, block the other wheels) and try to rotate
the wheels. That might free up the innards of the
transmission.

With the transfer in neutral and the clutch in and still can't budge stick then it time to remove the 6 bolts on the lid and lift her off. Look for worn forks, loose parts and two gear ranges engaged at the same time.

Thanks Wes. My wife tells me we are going to the lake this weekend, so I guess I'll plan for that removal next weekend. Why is she calling the Jeep my new wife? :)

Hey Wes, One more thing.

Why is the cover held on by that knob looking part on the top left hole, and is it possible to get it back on if I remove it, without a major undertaking?

Are we mixing up covers?

There are three covers on the way to the tranny's top cast cover.

First to remove has the round foot rest knob installed in it.

2nd to remove. This one has the kick start pedal which comes with. And the small round panel on the left attached to it.

Third panel to remove. Has the cover with gasket for the transfer canes attached to it.

Wes,

Thank you very much for the pics. I was talking about that food rest. I see, because of your pics, exactly what you are talking about. I will get into it. I sincerely appreciate the advise.
