ok I think that is what it is called. its screwed into the distributor. my question is, how tight is that supposed to be. seems like mine is loose but not falling off. what does it actually do. what happens if it comes off. thanks john jr

thats, the power feed to your coil. No current/ no spark/ your jeep no more runny.

All connections should be water tight as with all the electrical components within the M-series fuctionale' dictate the ability of fording.
I dont have nor ever seen torque specs for these connectors. Hopefully Wes will chime in.. with facts and figs.

Finger tight is fine. When a healthy connector is tightened finger tight it will not exhibit any motion. If yours exhibits motion when the threads are drawn up tight then there is something wrong with your connection.


The capacitor (Radio noise Filter) at the top of this photo is inside that connection.


The four screws must be tight.

That is the part of the connection on the distributor. The threads are the threads you screw the plug on your harness too. Make sure the strain relief grommet is in the backshell. To unscrew the backshell to inspect the interior you fasten the connector to the distributor then using a pliers loosen the backshell while holding the front nut with a wrench. Exactly which part or parts in the photos are loose?

wes, the nut and the backshell were somewhat loose. i hand tightened them. i didnt have any trouble with the jeep, i just found them loose. thanks again for your help. youre the man. john jr ps. thanks for the excellent picture.

A comfortable figure to apply to torque them with a torque wrench would be 35 to 45 Inch Lbs. Otherwise holding the pliers or wrench with your finger tips and using no more then wrist motion to snug them up.
